The Crucible, McCarthyism and other Witch Hunts

1. What was Millers point in writing the crucible?

http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/09/19/011753.php

The information on this site is actually from a person's blog who did an assignment similar to what we are doing now. According to the author of this report, Miller wrote the crucible to show that history was repeating itself during The Red Scare.

2. How are McCarthyism, The Red Scare, Arthur Miller and The Crucible interrelated?

http://www.megaessays.com/viewpaper/81448.html

I found a better website!

This site gives an accurate description between the Red Scare and The Crucible. It describes similare traits among the two and it also shows that history repeats itself.
3. Other times when "witch hunts" were conducted?

http://www.emayzine.com/lectures/native%20lecture1800-1828.htm
This website describes the americanization of Native Americans.

Other "witch hunts":

Mexicans

Gays

Blacks

Terrorists

Religions

*More may be added in the future

Keith..your first website was kind of confusing and you don't really summerize it. But I liked your second site but you could use some more information!

1. I love how you picked that website on someone else's paper. That's unique - first site I've seen about that. Way to be unique! :)

2. There's virtually not info. on your second link. May want to find more info!

3. Great ideas about other witch hunts...I thought of the same. Good job!

I liked your first site but your second didn't much information. Your third site should talk about a witch hunt in America. I like your ideas of other witch hunts I never thought of some of those as being witch hunts.

Keith, the first website where you got it from another blog was interesting, but somewhat confusing. The third site was a cool time line, very intresting. Good Job.

1.) Keith, I like how this site is from a student, so it is easy for us to understand. I like how it explains the three definitions of a crucible--just like we did. It discusses his point, which was to show a connection between the McCarthy age and the Witch Trials.

2.) A little confused on this one--where does it talk about the relation of the three events?

3.) The Holocaust is a great example of a witch hunt, but it's not American. You have some good examples on your blog though (i.e. the Native Americans and gay people), so just follow up on those instead.

Your second site was by far the best, it has related topics that you can access and I know it will be very helpful when we write our paper.

I couldn't really catch how your site related to witch hunts in general, but it did show how indians were persecuted and treated badly.

Good job, you found good sites and they will be helpful to everyone while writing their essays. Keep up the good work.

Good website about theocracy; really well done. The second site was a little short but got your point across. Once again, the Native Americans... If you read beth's page, take a look at my comment about the indians. Don't get me wrong. I harbor no tolerance of racism. Many of my good friends are Native Americans. The difference however, is that they aren't going around saying i need to repay them for what other white people did to their distant ancestors. Native Americans were witchhunted, but as for today, the reservations need to be done away with. Country before race.

I'd try and find a third link with a little more info and substance to it. just a suggestion

Your first website it interesting buts it's about school paper? it does provide information, just not sure if that is the correct way of how to.

your secound website had very little informations-may want to add more!

Last website is great! Very cool to read about Indaian Witch Hunts many other people chose that too, but i keep learning more information on each website!
Great job Keith!

You definately need more information for the second question that you answered. I liked the website you listed because it does a good job of comparing The Crucible and the Red Scare.

For the third question that you answered you also need more information. The website you listed for this question explains how the Indians were involved in a "witch hunt." Keep up the good work.

you might want to add some more stuff on the first topic. it's a good webiste but i don't know how credible.

in my opinion you did a great job on all of your sites!! you had plenty of information and it was very helpful..

1. I like your first site because the questions that are being answered are right there so it is easy to figure out what point they are trying to make, and it also presents a different but accurate reason for the crucible than what most people have found. It also realates well with our assignment.
2. Although it doesn't reveal a lot of information, I liked that this sight supported the idea of your first site, but I'm not sure it answers the question throroughly enough.
3. Your third site is really long, but it is a good example. I also liked your list.
You may want to add a couple more sites, but you did a really good job on these three!

Your first website was good. I like how it was from another website but it was kinda hard to read.

The second website doesnt have much on it. Maybe try and find another web site

1. The website about another student to wrote an assingment similar to our assingment is quite interesting.
2. This site doesn't have a lot of information but it does help to explain between McCarthyism and The Crucible.

The third website was long. Too long. I didnt want to read all of that.

1. I like your first site because its from a students point of view which makes it easy to understand.

2. I understand the site and everything, but how did it relate to all the subjects.

3. The Holocaust isn't an example of an American witch hunt. Keep looking for some American hunts. Keep up the good work.

1) Yes, history was definitely repeating its self in a way. Pretty good site.
2) I thought this site was great too...the better of my two.
3) In ways it appears to resemble a witch-hunt but not quite as strongly as the gays, terrorists, and religions.

Keith...you might want to make it so that you have two sites for each question so that they can back each other up. Also that helps to show that they are a more reliable website.

Kayla Jessen said...

Way to get right to the point with your questions, Keith. You might want to add to you descriptions a little bit though.

1.) you need a lil more than someone else's paper to work off of, it might not be totally accurate but it is very unique. it would prly be better if u just added another site.

2.) Need to find a lil more info, and summarize more.

3.) need more sites w/ur other examples, possibly write more on the 'americanization of indians'
good work though.

Kayla Jessen said...

I like how your first site is done by a student; it is easy to understand and you can easily relate to it. I haven't seen anyone with a site like that so good job!

Landon Schade said...

1)Your summarization doesnt quite fit the criteria of the website but it is a different site.
2)There wasnt all that much information on the site, so keep looking maybe.
3)The Holocaust is a good example but it is not an american witch hunt.

Anonymous said...

1.Keith, good job, but I think more of a summarization is needed for each site. The first one was confusing.
2.Your second link, I didn't find very helpful, but maybe I didn't read into it good enough.
3.Maybe summarize your last question better. Overall, good job and keep it up!

You have some good examples of different witch hunts, but are terrorists being 'witch hunted'? I don't think they would be considered because they are the ones doing the harm in the first place, don't you think?
